Expedition - Day Two

Start: 0920
Weather: Sunny.

We had a bit of a slow start this morning, but once we cramponed up, we had a good first hour. After that things got really tough.

Our pace slowed considerably as we met crevasse after crevasse – some it was a case of run and jump (and pray!), others required a more considered approach, so a game of pass the parcel was needed :)

After a few more hours the terrain began to smooth out (I think we’ve found the ‘VW ice-road’). During this time Mark had a few major disasters and once these were sorted we were back into the chossy stuff :( more crevasses, more rivers, even slower pace,…

Once we finally reached this, the most challenging section to date, we set up camp. It looks like we’re on the ice-road again, so tomorrow should have a fairly straightforward start… I hope.

Camp routine is beginning to take shape, although tonight there were two more disasters involving a broken stove and a dropped pan. Also, I have must have got bitten to death on the first night here – I have mozzy bites all over my feet and legs – they’re hundreds of them, they have swollen up and are really painful.

On the brightside, tomorrow cannot get much worse :)

Camp: N 67° 8’ 27·5” W 49° 54’ 39·1”
Alt: 710 m
Distance: 2·99 km
Finish: 1730
