Captain's Log

The first thing that struck me about being back on dry land...? The ground was moving! It was a very strange feeling indeed.

I really enjoyed my introduction to sailing. The dualistic nature of sailing appeals to me. The hectic and sometimes chaotic activities of tacking and gybing contrast neatly with the times onboard when there is little else to do but watch the World go by.

There are many aspects that contributed to the sailing experience. Skipper Dick asked us all, regardless of our experience, to participate in the operation of the boat and because of this we all learned so much.

One thing I was relieved to learn was the boat will NOT 'tip over'. When the boat is keeled right over, it can make moving about the boat and performing simple tasks very difficult. That said, it was all part of the fun and challenge of sailing!

I enjoyed waking up each morning and figuring out where we could go because sailing depends upon the weather, winds, tides,... It all added to the sense of adventure :)

What was the biggest lesson learned?

No one can enjoy sailing when they are seasick - not even a Powder Monkey!
