Sydney: Behind the Harbour

Without the harbour views, central Sydney is pretty much the same as any other city. That said, I enjoy visiting the sandstone Gothic St. Mary's Cathedral, the magnificent Queen Victoria Building and the thought-provoking artwork “Forgotten Songs” which hangs above Angel Place.

After a bit of lunch and a few beer at the atmospheric Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel (one of three claiming to be Sydney's oldest - all using slightly different criteria), I jump on a train to explore the diverse graffiti-covered offerings of Newtown.

I am back on the harbour for sunset to watch a projection on the Opera House’s eastern Bennelong sail. Badu Gili - meaning ‘water light’ in the language of the traditional owners of Bennelong Point, the Gadigal people - shares ancient First Nations stories in a colourful and spectacular way.
