Crown Range Road

With views of countless snowy peaks, the drive from Wanaka to Queenstown is deserving of its reputation as one of the South Island's most scenic drives. The road is narrow and winding and passes the Cardrona Bra Fence, a controversial tourist attraction in Central Otago.

Further along the Cardrona Valley, the recent snowfall makes the driving conditions challenging. Topping out at 1076m, it is the highest sealed road in New Zealand. Shortly after I begin the slippery descent to Queenstown to sample the mouthwatering delights of the legendary Fergburger.
