Despite not being full, I can fully understand why "The G", the largest stadium in the Southern Hemisphere, is considered one of the World's great sporting venues. I am here to watch my first game of Australian Rules Football.
After the first twenty minutes, I was struggling to see what all the fuss was about as neither side turned up during a scrappy first quarter. The first goal, courtesy of Melbourne’s Harrison Petty, did not arrive until the twenty-five-minute mark, but once Collingwood opened their account nine minutes into the second quarter, Melbourne were left for dead. Melbourne then made a late surge, but the game ended 10.10 (70) to 7.11 (53) in favour of Collingwood.
